Ongoing Self Reflection

Just went through an informal meeting for MAP progress with J. Don’t know why I have an uneasy feeling after the meeting. Many doubts run through my mind.

Have I asked too many questions?

Have I asked questions that I’m not suppose to ask?

Have I been too aggressive in giving feedbacks?

Have I used the wrong vocabulary in my sentence structure?

Have I accidentally provoked or hurt anyone’s feeling during the meeting?

Have I said something that I’m not suppose to say?

Without realizing it, I became more sensitive than usual after having bad experiences with some friends in the past. I admit that certain characteristics of mine are dislikeable by others. However, I understand that I cannot please everyone in my life because I’m only a normal human being. Only those friends who know me well would accept me for being who I am.

I have done my best to always improve myself by getting feedbacks from friends. I always try to fit into everyone but yet I’m being hold back by my own fear. The fear of accidentally hurting someone’s feeling without my knowing when I talk. This is my biggest concern when interacting with people.

Sometimes I really admire those girls with innocent-looking face because indirectly they have won the hearts of many. However, I was born with this cool-looking face which I think sometimes it has frighten people away thinking that I’m not approachable.

I always try to treat everyone politely but somehow it leads to people thinking that I’m either too formal or not friendly enough and that I’m cautious in my words and actions which created a barrier between us.

My friends always say that I’m too naive because I still see the world as a beautiful place which sometimes in reality it’s not that way.

My straight forward attitude is my biggest concern too because being too straight forward might lead to blunt words. But if you really know me well, be rest assured that I am sincere when I treat you as friends because I know how it feels when we’re not being treated sincerely.

Life – As You See It

Friend: How’s life treating you?

Me: Life has been treating me with sweet, sour, bitter and spicy taste. It was harsh to me for a certain period but giving wonderful journey along the way! =)

How you feel in life very much depends on how you perceive and interpret it. Different people might feel differently giving the same situation to them. So before you start changing your life, change the way you think.

It’s November

It has been a long time since I last updated my blog. Work life definitely not as free as study life. The amount of free time I have is getting lesser. I guess that’s one of the reason for not updating my blog for so long. Well, of course I do have some time for personal life as well which is fully utilised for family and friends. Transition period is always the hardest to adjust the time. But one thing for sure, life is getting better with new working environment and new friends found. =)

To my dearest otto: I know for the past 5 months things have been tough for you. I know the situation has been harsh on you. I know it was difficult for you to endure. Hopefully, you can get over with it soon. After every stormy rain, there will always be a bright sun. May you start a brand new you with passion in your life’s journey!

The Replied Email

Hi Stef,

it has been a long time? how are you? Yes, everyday every moment I am GREAT. hehehehe. thank you. It is so great to hear from you. for you information, I didnt meet up with them. too bad -.-

advice? I dont have any advice to people.

if do, just one - LEARN

just take it as some suggestions or references. from what i have learned to what i am today.

LEARN to accept

LEARN to love

LEARN to give

we are born with two eyes, two ears but one mouth. do you know why? some people said it is the god's message. listen more, see more and TALK less.

LEARN to listen

LEARN not to judge

because everyone has their own rights, their own rules, own habits, own way, own style, not only in personality, but everything from the thoughts to the definition about things. nobody is ever the same. remember that you are so difference.

something is bothering you. the tears you drop. each one is telling you a message

- you are human being

- you know love

- you know the answer

I used to read that when you dont know the answer, it is probably you have too much answers. human needs security. we, include me needs acceptance from our family, friends and society. but first, we must accept who we are. we are already perfect. we must accept that we are human being having emotion, that is why we cry, laugh, excited, bored...we make mistake just the excellent example of human being.

in this situation, to me problems are already there. don't ever focus on the problems. whatever you focus, it grows. i see so MANY opportunities. i understand, when things go wrong, sometimes we get mess up and f up especially we lose ourselves. we blind our own eyes. to make things better in this situation, to me is to live and feel the fear, the sadness, make the emotion your good friends, date your friend, tell them - i am sorry for what had happened, can we just forget everything and live happily again?

if there were mistakes i made, hurt you, make you suffered, i would like to know and accept that and change. everyone wants to proof to each other, oh i am right, you are wrong. it is never my fault to bring up this issue.

you started the fire, you burned the relationship. i take your words because i am your friend. bla bla bla.

EVERYONE IS THE WINNER, WHO IS THE LOSER?

EVERYONE IS TALKING, WHO IS THE ONE LISTENING?

after the fight, everything still the same. you live your life, i live mine. the thing is how do you live your life? you live your life, with some sadness cause by something or you live your life, with happiness of everything?

OPEN YOUR ARM, BUT DONT LET GO YOUR VALUE

if they want to claim their right, and return you the mistake, listen to them, agree with them. but in your heart, tell yourself,

I GIVE you acceptance

I allow your rules

I RESPECT you as a human being

sometimes we take too much prides on ourselves. it is much better if we can give up a little bit about ourselves and make something great, isn't it? give up some of our ego, make the relationship shines.

don't misunderstand - give up yourself doesn't mean you put yourself down. deep down, you know who you are. you accept everyone and most importantly you accept yourself.

all these are noises, if you want silence, practice -

1. be impeccable with your words

2. dont take anything personally

3. dont make assumption

4. always do your best

you must be the light of yourself. not the light of buddha, jesus, or anyone else. always listen to yourself.

be strong my friend. whatever i mentioned above it is ME. there is no right or wrong. be who you are :)

if you have any questions, feel free to find me. i am always here for anyone.

easy easy

you are a great friend to me. you are nice just the way you are ^^

PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders

In recent times this term has been used to describe a range of psychological symptoms people may experience following an extremely traumatic event that involved physical or mental harm or the threat of such. PTSD sufferers may startle easily, be irritable, become emotionally numb, lose interest in things they once enjoyed, and have trouble feeling affection for others – especially those with whom they used to be close. Some become aggressive, even violent, and tend to avoid situations or people that remind them of the original traumatic incident.

6D Motion Theater

Location: Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka

Description: 3D Movie + Motion + Touch + Smell

Length: 8 Minutes

Price: RM11 - RM13

Rating: 7/10

Comment: The parts involving wind and water were very real. We were moderately wet and extremely cold. Our legs could even feel the eerie feelings of things crawling around us created by the effect of ropes. Sound effect was great. Plot was moderate. Motion was moderate. Graphic was slightly below expectation. There was no smell. But overall it was a great experience. It’s worth to watch at least once in a lifetime.

Applied for BAT’s management trainee programme as requested by friend and failed in the test. Disappointed because it showed that I wasn’t capable enough. But also very glad that I didn’t make it because I just don’t feel comfortable to work for a company that produces products that are harmful to the health of human beings.

Husband Software

A woman writes to the IT Technical Support Guy

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and I noticed a distinct slowdown in the overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as  News 5.0, Money 3.0 and Cricket 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

The Technical Support Guy replies to the woman

Dear Madam,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Silence 2.5 or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta. Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources). In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance.
We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Hot Looks 7.7.
Good Luck Madam!

My Beloved Man

Besides my father, my uncle, and my boyfriend, one of my most beloved men is my brother. He never fail to cheer me up! =)

Extract of our conversations

Ling says: i'm jobless now

Pozan says: and?

Ling says: very free

Pozan says: and?

Ling says: wan go lepak ard if can lo... but with minimum expenditure

Pozan says: ok GOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL. what u have in mind?

Ling says: nothing

Pozan says: .....

Ling says: hungry d.. cant think of anything. ur sista now is clueless on wat job to find and many companies don seem to be hiring fresh grad

Pozan says: salah. let me tell u facts.

1) When company post job advertisement with this and that requirements, more often it does not matter as long as they get someone to come in and fill the empty role first

2) Hiring fresh grad is cheaper than experience worker, learn faster and easier to be conditioned to work environment <--- Main reason why fresh grad stands out more than experience worker

Ling says: many companies wrote want # yrs of experience, then wan this and that degree bla bla bla. see that also i din apply d

Pozan says:

3) The only reason fresh grad not wanted is because the job specified really required specific in-depth knowledge which can only be gained through years of practice. This field is not for the faint-hearted and often very tough.

The reason u find it hard is because u din even try to apply. usually the company puts up there yrs of experience required is to protect themselves from ppl like you, those who does not know what they want and what they can offer to the company. so, go think about it deeply from their perspective and u will get the answer. dun always assume the yrs of experience is the more important factor. usually it is not

Ling says: wat if i'm applying for a job which is non-related to my degree and they specify they wan the degree in for example PR? can i still apply?

Pozan says: doesn't matter. all they want is ppl. not so much on the certs but they do help

Ling says: oh... okok. then i can apply d la. tot wait they think i din read their requirements properly before applying

Pozan says: What are u planning to submit when applying?

Ling says: resume? that's the most important thing rite?

Pozan says: wat else?

Ling says: cover letter?

Pozan says: ok. wat is cover letter?

Ling says: a brief highlight about my strengths and why i'm interested in the job?

Pozan says: too general. anything else?

Ling says: to draw their attention to look at my resume

Pozan says: how?

Ling says: impress them. show them how much interest i have and what i can contribute to them. how i can help their company grow

Pozan says: let's say u r the hiring person, what would you be interested in?

Ling says: passion in work of the applicant

Pozan says: how to differentiate from one to another?through their england? or? how?

Ling says: need to conduct interviews only know lo. thru the way they talk

Pozan says: got 5000 applicants, u want to interview 5000 of them? u got so much time?

Ling says: nope. i know ur point. cover letter is very important. but i really dunno how to impress them with my cover letter

Pozan says: so, wat u think u will do if u r at that situation?

Ling says: research for sample of good cover letters. rephrase and amend according to my needs

Pozan says: i mean, what will u do if u were the one looking through the 5000 applicants? how do u choose the right person? or the better person?

Ling says: oh... screen out those whose basics are not qualified first

Pozan says: that is first. after?

Ling says: then the remaining, read the cover letters

Pozan says: .....

Ling says: haha. i dunno le

Pozan says: First, like u said, screen out those basic fail. Second, look for key interest or key word. Example, if u looking for PCB designer ---> Designed PCB board
or if you looking for Manager ---> Managed a team of 6 ppl

Ling says: oh...

Pozan says: Third, constraint set by company/environment ---> expected salary, certain certification of skills, etc.

Ling says: then?

Pozan says: Fourth, visual pro-personality assessment. The ability to organize resume, statement used in resume, cover letter composition structure, etc. ---> this stage is just very early stage personality screening and impression forming. Not accurate but give an impression of personality. Lastly, is all based on luck. how many ppl can write better than u or have better standing than u due to cover letter/resume organization skills. so, last one is nasib. ok lar, i go minum with frens. brb. u go think-think

Ling says: oh... okok. tq kor kor. haha

My brother is a humorous guy who is also wise in thoughts (at least that’s what I think about him). I don’t really care how others think about him which might be different from me but I certainly give full respect to him (although very often we tease each other a lot with sarcasm). Haha. Whenever I find him to talk, he never fail to impress me with his funny-wise thoughts and advice. That’s why I love him so much!

Ants Vs Grasshoppers

Older Version
An ant worked hard in the sweltering heat all summer, building its nest and laying up supplies for the winter. A grasshopper thought the ant was stupid not knowing how to enjoy life. It spent its days laughing, singing & dancing thoroughly enjoying the summer. Came winter, the ant was warm, comfortable and had no shortage of food. The grasshopper had no proper shelter, no stored food, and couldn't find anything to eat from the snow-covered ground. So it died and the story ended.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

Modern Version
An ant worked hard in the sweltering heat all summer, building its nest and laying up supplies for the winter. A grasshopper thought the ant was stupid not knowing how to enjoy life. It spent its days laughing, singing & dancing thoroughly enjoying the summer. Came winter, the shivering grasshopper called a press conference and demanded to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while he was suffering. TV1, TV2 & TV3 showed up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper alongside to a video clip of the ant in his comfortable home with a table full of food.

The majority of the Malaysian Parliamentarians were stunned by the  sharp contrast. How could this poor grasshopper be allowed to suffer? Khairy staged a demonstration in front of the ant's nest. Nazri went on a hunger strike along with other grasshoppers demanding that they be relocated to warmer climate area during winter. The Malaysia Government immediately passed a law forbidding all ants from working hard in the summer so as to bring about equality of poverty between ants and grasshoppers. Hishammudin increased 'More Special Reservations' for grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The ant was fined for failing to share 30% of his food with the grasshopper. The Prime Minister announced that this was part of the NEP. No ant should question it. (Don't forget, Tax Audits were introduced and targeted at certain individuals who were eventually penalized heavily for not contributing enough to the well-being of the grasshoppers).

Many years later, some ants migrated to the US and set up multi-billion dollar companies there. Hundreds of grasshoppers still died of starvation despite the 'More Special Reservations'. Losing significant number of hard working ants and free loading the grasshoppers, Malaysia  remained a developing country, despite its abundant natural resources. All because the remaining ANTS were still doing their work. Latest finding showed that almost all the grasshoppers in the political arena and civil service were hoarding corrupt wealth which they refused to share with fellow grasshoppers.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Vote wisely!

Just Stay

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. "Your son is here," she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night. Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited. Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her. "Who was that man?" he asked.

The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered. "No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life." "Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?" "I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed."

I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His son was Killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform him. What was this gentleman's name? The nurse with tears in her eyes answered, Mr. William Grey.

The next time someone needs you - just be there. Stay.
